iCarly & The Big Bang Theory

-----
You want to hear about something nice?

I have a friend named Steve.  He's about as talented as a comedy writer can get.  In fact, I'd call him brilliant.

Steve has worked with me on almost all my projects since 1999.  He had a lot to do with the success of The Amanda Show, What I Like About You, Drake & Josh, Zoey 101, iCarly, the movie Big Fat Liar, and many other projects I've done.  (Notice I underlined "a lot".)

I "discovered" Steve when he was working for my wife Lisa (a.k.a. "Hungry Girl") at Nick Online in New York.  He was so freakin' smart and funny, I talked him into moving his whole family to Los Angeles so he could become a writer on The Amanda Show.  That was just the beginning of our collaboration.

From about 1999 to 2003 I had Steve to myself.  Most of the work we did together was for Nickelodeon.  But when I created What I Like About You for the WB, I brought Steve along as a staff writer.  It didn't take long for Warner Bros. and the primetime networks to notice Steve's amazing comedic brain.

Occasionally I get Steve back working with me for a while, but not so often these days.  Luckily, I had him on the first dozen (or so) episodes of iCarly.

A couple of years ago, Steve told me he'd been offered a job writing for a new CBS show called The Big Bang Theory.  He actually had offers on two shows at the time, so he came over to my house and we watched the pilots together.  We agreed that The Big Bang Theory was special, and that's the job Steve accepted.

Since then, The Big Bang Theory has become a hit.  It's a show that lots of people love, including me and my wife Lisa.  Steve is now the co-executive producer there, working closely with showrunners Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady.  Those guys have come to love and appreciate Steve's work as much as I have.

And get this: There's another "Steve"  – an awesome comedy writer I worked with almost constantly since I first started All That at Nickelodeon in 1994.  And that Steve also joined The Big Bang Theory's writing staff this year.

So, why am I writing about this?  I'll tell ya...

2009 was an amazing year for both iCarly and The Big Bang Theory.  iCarly aired its final episode of the year ("iQuit iCarly") on December 5th.  The Big Bang Theory aired its final episode of the year ("The Maternal Congruence") on December 14th.

And...

Both episodes got the highest ratings ever for each series.  It was iCarly's biggest audience ever, and it was The Big Bang Theory's biggest audience ever.

It's a really nice way to end the year.

I miss working with The Steves every day, but I'm psyched and proud that they're working on a show that's not only popular, but also fantastically great and funny.

Congrats to The Steves and everyone who makes The Big Bang Theory and iCarly – two of my favorite TV shows. :)

Happy Holidays!

Major iCarly RATINGS NEWS: "iQuit iCarly"

Wow.  A big thank you to the fans of iCarly for making this past Saturday night's one-hour special iQuit iCarly the highest-rated episode in the history of the show.

For reference, in our demographic, when a new episode airs, a rating of 7 is good.  An 8 is very good.  A 9 is a really big night.  And when a new episode breaks 10 in the ratings, that's fantastic.

iQuit iCarly got an 18.24

And with girls, it scored a 21.53

This translates into just under 9 million total viewers.

This will almost surely make iQuit iCarly the #1 show on all of television for the week with people age 17 and under.  But tons of people 18 and over watched, too.

These ratings also make iQuit iCarly the highest-rated broadcast on Nickelodeon for the whole year of 2009.

So again, a huge thank you to all the iCarly fans out there who made this happen.  The writers, cast, staff, and crew are all very proud and happy.

Best,
--iDan :)
